ROHS (www.rohs.gov.uk)

ROHS stands for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2008. These Regulations implement EU Directive 2002/95 which bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. The NMO is the UK Enforcement Authority that makes sure that manufacturers understand the requirements of the RoHS Directive and ensure that their products, and their components, comply.

CE (www.export.gov/cemark)

The CE marking (an acronym for the French "Conformite Europeenne") certifies that a product has met EU health, safety, and environmental requirements, which ensure consumer safety. Once the manufacturer has conformed to the requirements laid out in the applicable directive(s), whether through self-certification or approval by a notified body, and has obtained a certificate/report from a lab to prove conformance, the manufacturer needs to affix the CE marking to its product.
